What’s New At SU – Merry Moose

August 20, 2019 by Diane 13 Comments

Today, I’m joining The What’s New at Stampin Up Blog Hop. We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with exciting ideas to share with you.

Today we will feature products from the upcoming Holiday Catalog. I know you will find a lot of wonderful ideas shared today. My project today showcases the brand new bundle Merry Moose. I’m a bit of a sucker whenever we have a stamp set and coordinating punch. I love that with a punch, I don’t need a die cut machine and I have my image all cut out in just seconds. I can have a dozen moose all punched out in just a couple minutes. What’s not to love?

For this card, I wanted something that would look 3-D. I wanted the moose out in front of a bunch of trees but I didn’t want to just use dimensionals. I really wanted him to stand out. I believe this pattern is called a “bendy card” because the two front flaps bend around the front of the card. The flaps are held in place with tabs and well-placed slits in the background piece.

For this card, you definitely want to do your measuring and use a ruler. You can find patterns for this card on line, but here’s a quick explanation.

  • Take a 8.5×5.5″ piece of card stock and score the 8.5″ side vertically at 4.25″, just as if you were making a standard card.
  • The front flap of the card will be cut in a curved line across the front to resemble a snowy hill. This is the curved piece in the middle with the moose.
  • I trimmed the right edge where the moose will be so I had a .25″ tab on the end.
  • Using a craft knife, I cut a .25″ slit 1″ in from the right side.
  • The flap on the right with the raccoon, is 5×1″ long. I scored it at .5″ and glued that to the card base on the right side. This gets covered with the piece of white card stock on the card base so you an’t see it.
  • I cut a .25″ tab on the left side of this piece.
  • Then cut a slit in the flap with the moose 1.25″ in and the tab gets tucked into that piece.

Apparently, it was a long snowy night because the moose is covered in snow. Here is a close-up view of all that sparkly snow on the Moose, trees, and hills.

The footprints in the snow is actually one of the stamps and it comes with a row of them all together. I love that Stampin Up thought about how we would want to create our scenes and included the footprint stamp in the set.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. If you have any questions about the pattern or how to put all this together, just let me know.

Thank you! The night background is one of our pattern papers from the See A Silhouette pack of pattern paper. I added a bit of glitter to the paper to resemble stars. The hill is just a free-hand slope.
