Yes, I get it. Christmas was a few days ago, but I still have more Holiday stuff that’s just too good not to share with you. You can always use these ideas for next year.
In one of the past Stampin Up Demonstrator Magazines, they showed a project that was stamping on pre-cut wood slices. I just loved the idea so I kept the article handy knowing I would need it closer to the Holidays. These ornaments turned out to be just the cutest! I bought my wood slices on line, but you can find them at local craft stores. I wanted them to be predrilled with holes at the top. If you want to hang them from something, be sure to look for predrilled. These slices are approximately 3″ round. The package I bought had slices anywhere from 2.75″ to 3.25″. I used mostly the larger size to accommodate the size of my snowman stamp.
I stamped my image in our Jet Black Staz-On ink. Using a very, very fine paint brush, I painted the snowman with our Frost White Shimmer Paint. The nose is colored using the Dark Pumpkin Pie Blends marker. I know you wouldn’t normally use the Blends marker with Staz-On ink, but I was very careful to stay within the lines. Our Blends markers will react with the Staz-On ink and remoisten ink, which means the black will start blending in with the color. I added bits of the Snowfall Accents Puff Paint to make it look like he’s playing with real snow. I also stamped the back side of the ornament with the “Let It Snow” and some snowflakes.I made about a dozen of these and gave some away at OnStage in Portland last month. Then I used a few more for gift packaging this month. They really dress up the gift and it’s so much better than a plain Christmas tag.
As always, when trying something completely new, I recommend working with a test piece before you commit to the final perfect piece. I tested everything I was going to use on one wood slice first. I picked out a really small one with a dark knot right in the center. I probably wouldn’t have used it anyway since it wasn’t that great looking. Testing allows you to see how ink, paint, or markers will react on the project. I was a little nervous that the ink or markers might bleed on the wood slices but they didn’t at all. The surfaces were all really smooth so it made for great stamping results. I was hoping to find some fancy ornament hangers, but came across these rings at a great price.
This is definitely a project I’m going to do again since this was so easy. I’m starting to prep projects for the coming year. What do you want to see? What crafts do you like to make? Contact me and I’ll get to work making pretty stuff just for you.
