I love orchids. They look so delicate, yet they are really a hearty flower. I had an orchid plant that a friend had given me that lasted close to seven years. It just kept flowering year after year until it finally wore out. The best part of an orchid for a non-green thumb person is the fact that they truly like to be left alone. Once you find a place that they love, don’t move them except to water. It did far better with watering only every two weeks or so. I learned they are not a flower that likes or needs constant attention – perfect for someone like me with an insanely busy schedule.
When I saw the Orchid Builder stamp set in the catalog, I knew it had the potential to make beautiful cards. What I did not count on was all the crazy “building” to make that orchid. This stamp set definitely has some pluses and minuses. It makes a truly beautiful card, but whoa, talk about work. I kept this card on the simpler side and didn’t do all the various layers of petals. I think it still looks pretty good and the recipient will never know I skipped a couple layers in the interest of time.
The base on this card is made with the Ruffled Embossing Folder. I think this is the first time I used this embossing folder and it’s perfect for feminine cards. I’ll definitely be using it when Spring rolls around with my flower cards.
