That statement that you can learn something new everyday is true. I recently made a bunch of note cards for a family member to use and I used the stamp set To a Wild Rose. That got me thinking… what is a wild rose? Or is that just something they used to name the stamp set? Did you know there is actually class of roses called wild roses? Who knew?
Wild roses differ from garden roses as they tend to be a tougher, low-maintenance plant adaptable to poor soil conditions and shade. The resemble a shrub, rather than the manicured rose bush you see in gardens. And, like the name “wild” implies, they grow wild without pesticides, fertilizers, or supplemental watering. Really interesting to learn that all wild roses have exactly five petals and most of them are pink, although some may be white or red or even just a hint of yellow. Garden roses can have 20-40 petals.
Now that you know a little bit more about wild roses, I’ll share my card for today. I kept this one simple and without embellishments to make for easier mailing.
And my wild rose is purple! Obviously I made my card before I researched wild roses. But that’s okay, purple roses are just as lovely. Although now that I know better, I’ll have to stick to pink or red and yellow next time.
