Today, I’m joining The What’s New at Stampin Up Blog Hop. We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with exciting ideas to share with you. Today we will feature products from the Occasions Catalog. I know you will find a lot of wonderful ideas shared today.
If you’ll been following along here for any length of time, you’ve probably guessed that I’m a dog lover. My assistant Frannie is my number one fan and cheerleader. She’s my constant companion in my studio. You can read more about her here. So when I saw the new Happy Tails stamp set and punch in the new Occasions Catalog, I know this would be in my first order. I just didn’t know it would take me so long to use it.
For today’s project, I wanted something special to show just how great this stamp set is. I knew a pop-up card would be perfect for this. Frankly, I don’t make these very often because the mechanics involved in getting it to work right can be time consuming. But, this one came together pretty easily. Here is the outside of the card. Awwwwe! That pup is super adorable. When you lay the card down on a table, it actually opens up by itself and the house and dog pop up into place. Yay!
The card base is really easy to construct for this pop-up. Here’s how it comes together.
- Start with a piece of card stock that’s 4.25″ x 11″.
- Score the cardstock at 5″, 5.5″, and 6″.
- Fold all your score lines. You should end up with something that looks like this: ____ / \ ____ .
- The inside of the card is the part with the “mountain”. This is your center piece base to attach the house, grass, and dog.
- On the outside of the card or the “valley”, use tear & tape to tape inside where the score lines are. You want that “valley” section glued shut. This is what creates the pop-up motion of the card.
- Glue your house and dog to the centerpiece or “mountain” on the inside of your card.
You might have noticed that the dog house in my card is quite a bit larger than the dog house in the stamp set, and we do not have a coordinating die for this set. Sometimes, you just have to make your own embellishments. I took the dog house stamp in the set and enlarged it with a pencil and ruler extrapolating the dimensions. This is my template for the house in the card. The roof was free-hand drawn to fit just over the top of the house. I cut out two pieces of the house and the roof. They are glued together on the top. Then the bottom of the front of the house is glued to one side of the center piece in the card, and the back side of the house is glued to the back side of the center piece. I added the grass to help cover the center piece that the house is glued too. My pup is glued to the house so he pops up with the house. Just imagine the recipient’s surprise when the card opens up to a pup and doghouse.
I hope you enjoyed today’s project. If you have any questions about the pattern or how to put all this together, just let me know.
