I realize book clubs are generally considered not “cool”. But, my friends and I are all avid readers. We were always talking about recent books that we had read and recommending new ones to each other. So starting a book club seemed like a logical step. Plus it gave us an excuse to get together once a month and have a girls night. We even took it one step further and Lyndi looked up actual book club discussion questions. We usually pick one or two questions each and go through them, really taking time to think about them before answering. The discussion questions have really opened up some dialog about the books and their controversial topics.
We constantly debate the merits between physical books, Kindles, reading apps, or audio books. It’s kind of funny because we all use more than one of the above methods. But honestly, nothing warms my heart like a shelf full of books.

What happens if we didn’t finish the book in time for book club? It happens more often than you think it might. People get busy or the book is just not grabbing their attention or they are already reading something else. We made an agreement early on that we will be discussing spoilers and endings at book club night. So if you attend book club and you didn’t finish the book, you’re going to hear spoilers. This allows those of us that did finish it to discuss it in depth.
I realize a lot of people don’t read a book per month so this might be hard to do. It definitely keeps us reading all year long and exposes us to some books that we might not have picked ourselves. If you’re looking to add more reading to your life, it’s easy to start with a base goal, like six books per year (one every other month), or even twelve books (one per month). Once you get into the habit of reading, it’s easier to increase your goal each year by a handful of books.
I hope you enjoyed today’s card showcasing a shelf full of books!
