It’s another fabulous Friday around here. We’ve got a busy weekend planned with a soccer tournament and hubby is home for the weekend. Gotta tell you…this living apart is hard. Hopefully, it won’t be much more than a year or two.
Last night was our Monthly Downline meeting. I know I say this every time, but I love getting together with these ladies. We may have started as Uplines and Downlines, but we are so much more than that. I love how encouraging everyone is. We cheer each other on. And we support each other when someone needs help. I think we are a pretty awesome group. Crafty friends are the best friends.
Today’s card is my swap from last night. It uses the brand new Carols of Christmas stamp set that is going to be in the new Holiday Catalog starting 9/1. Don’t worry, you won’t have to wait until then to get your stamp set. Stampin Up has released it early so you can get a jump on your Holiday cards. This card actually didn’t end up looking like what I had originally visualized. Originally, I had planned to use embossing paste with the diamond stencil on the background. But I forgot to take the stencil with me to work yesterday (yes, I craft at lunch when I have a time crunch). And, I couldn’t do the embossing paste after work because it wouldn’t have dried in time for the meeting. So, I decided to ink it with my old Gold Encore pad using daubers. I’m bummed that those pads are retired, because every now and then a card really needs some gold.
The music paper is in the new Holiday Catalog. You’re going to love it. I cut it into strips, then wrinkled it, and then sponged on some gold ink. The gold is very subtle, but it gives a little extra sparkle to the paper.
The Vanilla Lace and Gold Sequin trim is tied around the card. This gives me a little base to anchor my trees and deer on the card. The tree on the left is on Dimensionals and the one on the right is glued directly to the card base.
I love using the embossing paste on the trees to give them that snowy winter look. Here’s a tip when you do this technique. Using your palette knife, brush the embossing paste onto the tree from the top down only. You can see that the paste clumps on the top side of the branches – just like real snow would. Don’t try to make the paste look like an even layer on all the branches. You would never see an even layer of snow on a tree in real life. On my tree, the snow is a little heavier at the top and gets thinner towards the base. While the paste is still wet, add the Dazzling Diamonds glitter. Set aside and let dry for a couple hours. Once it’s dry, you can glue the trees to the card.
If you’re looking to make some new friends or just want to see what we do at a Demonstrator meeting, we do welcome guests. Contact me to find out about our next meeting.
