New Catalog, New Toys!

There is always so much anticipation around the new Stampin Up catalog. What did they keep? What’s brand new? I decided to play with some new products – the new In Colors, a new stamp set, and washi tape. Washi tape is so much fun. It’s so cute and comes in tons of colors and patterns and is fairly inexpensive. Such an easy add-on to your purchase. A number of people have asked me: what do you use it for? If you’re on Pinterest, you can do a search for washi tape and tons of ideas will come up. I’ve seen everything from use on a card or scrapbook page to recovering your bike in bright colors and patterns.

I thought we’d start small here with a card. The card base is the brand new Color Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding. I started with the Pistachio Pudding and layered two different Epic Day This and That washi tapes diagonally across the cardstock. Then I embossed it using the Modern Mosaic Embossing Folder. I already had the piece of Very Vanilla with the outline stamp from You’re Amazing leftover from another project and thought it would tie in the grey of the washi tape. The sentiment is from the set Really Good Greetings and punched it out using the new Artisan Label Punch.

You might have noticed that my Artisan Label Punched piece is longer than the actual punch. Using a well-known trick, I inserted only one end of my strip into the punch. Then flip the strip around and punch the other end and this gives me the fancy edge on both ends.

The flower was made with using the Fancy Flower Punch, Blossom Punch, and Calypso Coral cardstock. I punched out the flower three times and then distressed each one with my Stampin Distress Tool and inked all the edges. When making a flower like this, the more distressed the better. The easiest way is to crumple it up in your hands and continue to play with it until the layers start to separate. Then continue to pry apart the layers to give the added depth. Using Dimensionals, I stacked each layer slightly offset to add to the overall effect.

I left the inside of the card blank for now. I’ll add in an appropriate greeting on the inside when I need too. This will make a great birthday card.

Happy Stampin!
