Welcome to our NEW AT SU! Blog hop! We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from around the world who are Hoppin’ with creative paper crafting ideas to share with you. Today we are showcasing fun fold birthday cards using products from the Stampin’ Up! Catalog.
Our challenge this month was to design a birthday card with a fun fold design. Fun folds are great because you can get a totally different look for a card other than our standard flat card. I couldn’t find a specific name for this particular fold, but it’s similar to a gate fold, but has the extra flap. Let’s call it a double gate fold.
I used a card stock base that’s 4.25 x 5.5″ which means this will fit in our standard size envelopes. The pattern paper layer is 5.25 x 12″. The two flaps are cut on the same continuum so the angles match up. I cut both the left and right sides at the same time – a paper trimmer can easily cut through two layers of pattern paper at the same time.

When adhering the elements to the front of the card, be careful to glue them only on the side that they will be attached to. You don’t want to glue the elements to both sides of the front of the card.
For the flaps, you’ll score along the 12″ length at 2″, 4″, 8″, and 10″. I included a layer of white card stock in the center so there’s someplace to write a message. You can see the opening of the card below.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project. If you have any questions about how to put this together, just let me know. You can click the link below and it will take you through your Hop today. As you go through the New at SU Hop, be sure to leave comments on each page in the Hop letting us know what you liked.

Love your card! It is like two fun folds in one! I would call it the DSP Z Gate Fold!
Oh I love cards that show both sides of the DSP! So lovely with the big flowers! Love he fold, love the choice of DSP, love the colours!
Ahhhh, I can’t wait to play with this big beautiful BEGONIA (which sure looks like a rose to me, but call it by any other name and it’s still a rose). Your card has put it on STAGE and drawn back the curtain to celebrate a birthday or a wedding!
So pretty!! Those begonias go so well with the pleated fold! I love how it leaves the top open to the inside of the card!! TFS!
