I’m back with Message In a Bottle stamp set again today. This stamp set comes with so many different things that you can put in the jar. One of my favorites is the adorable mermaid. She is so tiny and has the sweetest smile. Here she is just waiting to make a splash.
I bet you’re wondering how I got that beautiful sky background. It is super easy. You’ll need a Marina Mist Marker, and clear block, and a sponge. Scribble your marker on the clear block. Dab the sponge into the ink on the clear block. Then blot it over the white background. Keep repeating until you get the desired results. If you don’t have any sponges, you can use a bit of paper towel. To be honest, I tried making this card and not fussy cutting the mermaid. But I wasn’t happy with the results. She really does need to be cut out to get the full effect. I will say, she will challenge even the most ardent of fussy-cutters. Those itty bitty fingers and all those beautiful curls – oh my! I used both my scissors and an exacto knife to get into all the little crevices.
The mermaid is glued to the back of the waves inside the jar. Then I used a very small amount of Fine-Tip glue to glue the bottom edge of the jar to the bottom edge of the waves. Then a little more Fine-Tip glue across the top of the jar to hold it in place. Check her out. What a cutie!
To make the waves, I used the scallop border from the Seasonal Layers framelits set. The waves are Pool Party, Island Indigo, and Tranquil Tide. If you look closely, you can see that I used my markers to edge the very top of the waves. It gives them a little more definition. I cut the wave strips longer than my card front so I could offset them slightly. Once I was happy with the placement, I glued them together using the Tear & Tape adhesive.
