Tomorrow, this kid will turn 19. I can’t believe it. It’s amazing how quickly the years have flown by. That saying “the days are long, but the years are short” is so very true. When he was little, I had no idea how to keep up with a high energy boy on a daily basis. Yet, now thinking back, those years are a blur of trains and soccer games. I have loved watching you grow through years. I have enjoyed each fun new phase of your life. The fun crazy kid that loved to run everywhere to the smart young man you are.
Everyone warns you that last year of high school is so tough as you prepare to let them leave the nest. And it was. I wasn’t ready to let you go. Some days I wondered how you’d make it on your own without me. And frankly, some days I was ready to pack your suitcase for you (#teenagers).
But it’s also so very amazing. Finishing up your high school career. Seeing you make decisions about your future. Discovering the love for a particular career choice. Making tough decisions when you know they are right for you. Watching you prepare to navigate the world on your own.
And seeing you become the man you were always meant to be. You have grown so much in the last year. I think you might even be ready to leave the nest, even if I’m not ready to let you go. You’ve had a ton of adult decisions to make this year, including telling your mom you decided to go with Plan B for college. I was nervous for Plan B, but I had faith that you knew what was right for you. I’m so very proud of you and the choices you’ve made. After seeing all the changes this past year, I know you will go far in life.
My wish for you is to always do your very best and never settle. To go after the things you want and to live life with passion. And as always… make good choices.
