The First Day of Fall is rapidly approaching and frankly, it can’t come soon enough. I much prefer cooler temperatures to the sweaty 100′ heat we had today. I pulled out my Fall Wreath today hoping I could convince Mother Nature to give us a little break on the heat.
I have a lot of seasonal decor that I’ve made through the years and this Fall Wreath is one of my favorites. I actually made this last Fall, but I haven’t had a chance to share this here yet. The Vintage Leaves stamp set and Leaflits Framelit dies are still current along with most of the colors that I used. The one retired color is Hello Honey. That was such an awesome color. The ribbon and patterned paper is retired as well.
Here is a close up shot of the all the leaves. To make this wreath, you will want to stamp a bunch of leaves. I can’t even guess how many I ended up die-cutting. But I know it was dozens. To get all the different looks, I stamped some leaves on colored card stock and some on vanilla card stock. I die cut all them. Plus I also die cut a couple dozen of just card stock leaves with no stamping. Then every leaf was crinkled and inked individually. This is a good project for when your bored, or in front of the tv, or stuck on a soccer sideline most of the weekend. 🙂
Placement of the leaves does take some planning and sorting. Once everything was stamped and die cut, I sorted each type of leaf into it’s own pile. By the time I was finished sorting, my glue gun was heated and ready to go.
I started by wrapping the burlap ribbon around the wreath. Then I picked a spot for the bow in the bottom center. Then I placed each leaf individually with the hot glue gun. Since I had all the different colors and styles in different piles, it made it easier to pick and choose which leaf would go where. I worked out from the middle going in both directions at the same time. Add a couple on the left, then add a couple on the right, then more on the left and more on the right. Keep going until you have the desired look. After I was happy with the leaves, I realized the top half was a little bare so I filled it in with the Fall tags.
In making this project I ended up with dozens of leaves. Literally. Dozens. I still have pile of leaves left over from this project. I do have a plan to use up the rest of them this year. I might swap out the Hello Honey leaves for ones in Delightful Dijon. But then again, I might just go ahead and use the Honey leaves. I do love that color.
