This past Wednesday was our annual Crumpette Christmas party. More than 20 years ago, we all worked at the same office and became really good friends. Then one by one, each of us left the Company and moved on to other jobs. We missed seeing each other on a regular basis so we started a monthly dinner night. We’ve been having dinner (almost) every month for close to 20 years now.
About nine years ago, I started making ornaments for the ladies every Christmas. They are all very different, but I am partial to snow globes. I just love the tiny scenes inside the ornaments. This year’s ornament is a snow globe, and it is two-sided. I used two of the Snow Globe Shaker Domes from the Holiday Catalog and glued them back to back.
The Snow Globe Scenes dies are perfectly sized to create mini scenes in the domes. One side has the sparkly white trees with a majestic deer in the foreground. The other side has the sparkly white trees with the mama and baby bear in the foreground.
To make the trees extra sparkly, I die cut them using our Shimmery White card stock. Then scribbled a bit of the Shimmery Crystal Effects across the front of the trees and added the Ice Stampin Glitter to the Crystal effects before it dried. Before I glued the domes together, I added a bit of crafting “snow” (can be found at local craft stores) and some of our Snowflake Sequins.I had a bit of a challenge on how to finish the domes so they looked nice. The domes are self-adhesive, which is fabulous, but the adhesive is a white tape that I didn’t want showing. I used one of the domes as a template and traced it on the silver foil paper and cut it out. Then I die cut the center of that silver foil piece for the dome opening. The silver ring is just wide enough to cover the adhesive edge of the dome. The base of the snow globe is die cut using this same Die set. The base is two separate die pieces – a solid silver piece and then a nice filagree piece which layers over the top of the solid piece. To make sure everything holds together for years to come, I used a hot glue gun to glue the ribbon to the dome, then hot glued the silver ring to the dome, and the snow globe base to the dome as well.
And, here’s what they look like all boxed up to give away. I love these take out boxes. I bought several packages of them when they were retiring several years ago because they are the perfect size for my ornaments.
I have a separate mini tree that I hang all of these ornaments on rather than hanging them on the big tree. I like seeing the group of ornaments all together in one place.
You might have noticed the tags attached to the back of the Ornaments. I label each one with the year I made them so when the ladies get them out every year, they know which year they received it. It is a challenge to come up with something new every year, but I really love making these.
