That one word says it all. If you’re a parent of a teen or teens, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You constantly vacillate between “I can’t wait for them to move out” and “I can’t believe they are going to move out”.
Yesterday, our oldest turned 17, which means the “move out” could be right around the corner for us.We still have another year and half of high school and we’ll see where he ends up for college. I worry constantly that we will lose him in about 1.5 years when he moves on to college. And then I worry that he won’t ever leave. In the span of two high school years we’ve gone from “I can’t wait to get out and go do things” to “why would I move out? Who’s going to cook for me?”.
While his cooking skills are still lacking, he is a pretty great kid. He’s mastered laundry, juggling school and sports, driving, and so many other things. He’s a good person and has a good heart. We are so very proud of the young man he’s become.
A special kid deserves a special card. One of his favorite color combos is red and black. I love the brand new Balloon Adventures stamp set. It has some really great sentiments in it and the balloons are fabulous. Here’s to another year full of adventures! That’s how were trying to approach his (maybe) last year at home – lots of adventures mixed in with his all time favorite activities. We do realize he may end up coming back home at some point for a while, but it won’t ever be the same.
This is the inside of the card. I just can’t believe he’s 17. It sounds so old. And if he’s 17, that must mean that I’m… nevermind we won’t go there.
It’s true what people say: the days are long, but the years are short. Cherish every day.
