Piece of Cake

Who needs a birthday to have an excuse to celebrate? Not me! We are closing in on the last month of school for my daughter and my son finishes up his first year of college this next week and that is reason enough to celebrate. I really, really, really look forward to the end of the school year – all that homework, all those tests, all those school commitments. Of course, they are both taking summer school this year to get ahead, but it’s not quite the same pressure as the regular school year.

One of my favorite sentiments in the Occasions Catalog is this one from the Amazing Life stamp set: life’s too short to say no the cake. It’s perfect for so many different occasions: birthdays, congratulations, or even cheering someone up. I am so sad that the Amazing Life stamp set is retiring at the end of this Catalog period. I think I will be adding this one to my permanent collection, there are just too many good sentiments in this set that are perfect for a wide range of events. It is still available while supplies last. This card also uses the Piece of Cake stamp set and coordinating Cake Punch. I stamped the cake and cake stand in our Memento Black ink and then colored them using our Blends markers. Our Blends are alcohol markers and they tend to be very wet and will saturate your card stock. I recommend coloring all pieces before you glue them to your final project. You don’t want the Blends ink to seep through your project and end up with a blob on the inside of your card. The word “cake” has an ombre effect, which is really easy to get with Blends markers. I colored the bottom half of the letters with the light and colored the top half with the dark. Then I used my light to color the entire letter, starting at the top and coloring down into the light. This step blends the light and the dark together so you get the ombre look.

I love the vibrant colors of this card. It reminds me of Summer… bright colors, beach towels, picnics, fun activities. And the yellow flowers in the pattern paper kind of resemble fireworks. Ah, I can’t wait for Summer! What are you most looking forward to this Summer?
